3-D Excitement

Explanation

• When looking at an object, the image seen by the left eye is slightly different from that seen by the right eye due to the separation between eyes. This effect makes it possible to artificially create a three-dimensional image on a two-dimensional page.
• A good source of inexpensive 3D glasses is www.rainbowsymphony.com.

Instructions

• Open an image that you want to create as three dimensional.
• Unlock the background layer [double click the “lock”] and name it “3D.”
• Change the image to grayscale [Image > Mode > Grayscale]
• Create a snapshot of this image [History tab > Snapshot icon].
• Use the “move” tool and the arrow key to move the 3-D image ten spaces to the right.
• Choose Select >All and make a copy of this image [Edit > Copy].
• Return to the original saved image by using the snapshot.
• Change the image to RGB mode. [Image > Mode > RGB]
• Open the channels palette.
• Select the blue and green channels (click on blue > shift key > click on green).
• Paste the saved image into these channels [Edit > Paste].
• Turn on all the channel “eyes.”
• View with anaglyph 3-D glasses (red on the left).
• Create other layers to provide depth of field
• Paste one or more images
• Key text

Printing

• This image can be printed as 3-D (using a color printer and any paper) or viewed on a computer screen.

Create Animation

• Move to ImageReady [at bottom of toolbox]
• Set the time to view
• Choose layers to see
• Duplicate first frame
• Change viewable layers
• Move layer images
• Select tweening button
• Choose options
• Export to SWF (flash) for use on the Web (smaller file)
• Save as a GIF to create an animated gif (larger file)
